Pacman is back

Manny Pacquiao is back.

Just three months after his initial retirement after beating Timothy Bradley, Manny Pacquiao is to return to the ring for one more boxing match.

Late last night Top Rank promoter Bob Arum confirmed to ESPN that Manny Pacquiao is set to feature in the main event of the HBO PPV card in Las Vegas this autumn.

The pay per view will take place on either October 29 or November 5 and will have Manny face off against an as yet unnamed opponent.

Those wishing for Pacman to face four-division titlist Adrien Broner will be disappointed however, as Arum has already nixed that potential match up, claiming Broner was asking for “crazy numbers” for a fight purse.

Pacquiao’s return now faces the challenge of balancing fight training with the Filipino boxer’s political career. A congressmen holding a senate seat in his native Philippines, Arum revealed the initial fight return was pushed back due to political scheduling.

“We had penciled him in for October 15 at Mandalay Bay but we were informed that is no longer possible because he has to spend that week leading up to October 15 formulating the budget in the senate and doing the votes.

“So he has to be there for that week, so that knocks out that week. He can’t mess around with that. So now we’re looking at October 29 or November 5. The question is building availability because we want to do the fight in Las Vegas.”

“Michael said Manny definitely wants to fight again. Not even a question,” Arum said. “We just have to get an appropriate date.”

The only man to hold world championships in eight different divisions, Manny Pacquiao is widely considered to be one of the best pound for pound fighters in the modern era.

In May 2015, Pacquiao lost a unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather in their welterweight unification fight. The long-anticipated megafight broke all previously established boxing revenue records.
