Manchester United fans will be happy to see one of their most promising young players commit his future to the club.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has signed a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford for the next four years, with the option of a further 12 months, ahead of United’s game against Fenerbahce.
Jose Mourinho’s side take on the Turkish club at Old Trafford on Thursday, and the 18-year-old Dutch defender could be in-line for a start at right-back.

Fosu-Mensah signed from Ajax two years ago, broke into the first-team under Louis van Gaal last season, and has made 12 appearances so far.

“Tim is young player with great potential,” Mourinho told United’s official website.

“I am pleased that he has signed a new contract and I am delighted at the progress he has made so far. It is clear to see that he is learning every day in training and there will be plenty of opportunities for him as the season continues.”

Fosu-Mensah said:

“I am delighted to have signed a new contract here at Manchester United. I have enjoyed every minute since I joined this great club and I want to continue the progress that I feel I have made so far. I am learning every day from the manager and the coaching staff. I appreciate the trust that the club has in me and I want to repay that with my performances on the pitch.”

He was also congratulated by Rafael, the former United right-back.
