Manchester United set to sign ‘new Fabien Barthez’

JOE

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Argentine keeper Sergio Romero, according to reports in Argentina.

Old Trafford chiefs are thought to have agreed a deal with the free agent, who has been without a club since he was released by Serie A side Sampdoria.

The good news is that the 28-year-old is his country’s current number one, and has worked under Louis van Gaal before whilst the pair were at Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

The bad news is that Romero is famed for his regular gaffes and losses of concentration. So much so that there is a three-minute YouTube video highlighting his more comical mistakes.

The colourful character is likely to replace outward-bound Victor Valdes on United’s bench, but Old Trafford could be one injury away from having a new Fabien Barthez in goal.
