Manchester United play statues for PSG’s second goal as they lose 2-0

Nooruddean Choudry

Manchester United slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in a display punctuated by profligacy in attack and chaos at the back.

First-half goals from Blaise Matuidi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic proved the difference on the night as PSG found no trouble in picking the Reds off on the counter-attack.

David De Gea was either experiencing fitness problems or couldn’t be arsed in an unusually reticent display. He was playing within himself and was hauled off at half-time.

It was only a friendly granted, but it was the last friendly before United’s Premier League opener with Spurs. Too many players looked rusty and unready.

Bastian Schweinsteiger was blowing out of his arse, Wayne Rooney, Memphis Depay and Juan Mata were wasteful upfront, and the defence was a comedy of errors.

The crap cherry on the sh*t cake was PSG’s second, scored by Zlatan. Watch how the Swedish ace runs into the box whilst four United players simply freeze in unison…

PSG’s opener also exposed United’s problems at the back. A combination of David de Gea, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw fail to properly deal with a speculative long ball and Blaise Matuidi capitalises…

The display was further proof if needed of three undeniable truths:

  • Manchester United need a new centre-back and pronto;
  • They require a goalscoring forward with equal urgency;
  • A half-arsed David de Gea could become a liability.
