Manchester City found guilty on 114 charges with Premier League financial regulations: Live blog

The club are expected to appeal the decision.

The club were initially charged with breaking financial fair play rules from 2009 to 2018.

Now, this could spell huge sanctions shortly for the Citizens, who currently sit top of the table.

Sanctions have not yet been decided, with all potential punishments still on the table.

The punishments could include fines, a points deduction or even expulsion from the league.

City have so far this campaign won all their five fixtures under new gaffer Enzo Maresca, boasting the only faultless record still in the top-flight.

The club have since released a statement:

A Manchester City spokesperson told The Athletic: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.
“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
City’s statement in February 2023 said the club was “surprised” by the charges and it “welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position."

The breaches are understood to be:

54 - Failure to provide accurate and up-to-date financial information from 2009/10 to and including 2017/18
14 - Failure to provide accurate financial reports for player and manager compensation from 2009/10 to and including 2017/18
5 - Failure to comply with UEFA’s regulations, including UEFA’s Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations
7 - Breaches of Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations from 2015/16 to and including 2017/18
35 - Failure to cooperate with Premier League investigations from December 2018 - present
