Man United’s elder statesman pledges to act as a mentor to Memphis and Martial

Bastian Schweinsteiger has only been with Manchester United for a few months, but he is already making some of the club’s younger players feel at home.

The World Cup winner has said he will “try to guide” Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay as the big-money arrivals settle at Old Trafford, especially on the European stage.

Schweinsteiger was part of the Bayern Munich team that won the Champions League in 2013, as well as ending up as a losing finalist in 2010 and 2012, and he explained to United’s matchday programme that “it is always a little bit different to Premier League and Bundesliga games.”

“It is a big honour to play Champions League games, so I will try to give my best and try to help my younger team-mates,” he added.

Martial has already taken the Premier League by storm, finding the net three times in as many games, while
Memphis got off the mark in the 3-0 win against Sunderland.

“They are both very young but both very talented. If they make the right decisions and take the right steps in the future, then they can give a lot of power to Manchester United,” Schweinsteiger said.
