The club will therefore have to continue with its current squad, although free agents remain an option if they decide further additions are necessary.

So, which players have arrived at Old Trafford this summer, who has been shown the door, and what positions did United ultimately strengthen?

Here is the full breakdown of Manchester United’s summer ins and outs.

Ins

Manchester United’s main priority in the market was strengthening the midfield, with the club making several significant additions before the window closed.

The biggest move came in late August, when United completed a deal for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba for a fee that could rise to £70 million.

This followed the earlier arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48 million and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35 million.

The club also brought in some experience between the posts, with goalkeeper Karl Darlow arriving on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United.

Outs

United’s departures began before the current season had even finished, when Rasmus Højlund’s loan move became permanent after Napoli secured Champions League qualification, triggering the option to buy.

The club then saw a much busier period of exits in June. Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Sonny Aljofree, Malachi Sharpe, Tyrell Malacia and James Bailey all left Manchester United during the month.

More departures followed towards the end of the summer as Tyler Fredricson moved to Lausanne-Sport in late July.

United’s youth recruitment was just as busy

United also used the window to strengthen their younger ranks, rather than focusing entirely on the senior squad. One of the more notable additions was Tynan Thompson, who arrived from Tottenham in a seven-figure transfer.

The club also brought in Colombian prospect Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza and 20-year-old goalkeeper Kit Margetson from Swansea.

There were several changes among the younger players as well, with a number of academy prospects moving on. Radek Vitek, Ethan Ennis and Ethan Williams all joined EFL clubs, while James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye made the move to Arsenal’s academy.

The departures continued right up to the deadline, with Toby Collyer joining West Brom and Louis Jackson moving to St Mirren just days before the window closed.

The club also cleared space through a number of loan moves

The loan market was another major part of United’s transfer activity, with nine players sent out to gain temporary moves elsewhere. Four of those departures involved goalkeepers, as André Onana, Altay Bayındır, Elyh Harrison and Solomon Honor all left on loan.

The other five were outfield players, with Sekou Kone, Jacob Devaney, Ethan Wheatley, Jayce Fitzgerald and Dan Gore also heading out temporarily. Wheatley, Fitzgerald and Gore will spend their loan spells with EFL clubs.
