Man United move for Southampton’s Sadio Mane after missing out on Pedro

Why so Sadio?

After pulling the plug on a deal for Barcelona’s Pedro, many Manchester United supporters speculated that a big name alternative was in the pipeline.

With rumours rife in Germany that a bid has been made for Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller, perhaps that’s the reason Louis van Gaal seemingly doesn’t care about Pedro heading to Chelsea.

It’s fair to say that not too many would have expected Southampton’s Sadio Mane to be the man that United would turn to.

But, if reports in the Telegraph are to be believed, the Senegalese forward is the subject of a surprise bid from the Old Trafford club – perhaps explaining the collapse of the expected Pedro deal.

The size of the bid is unclear, but the winger who scored the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history clearly seems to have caught Van Gaal’s eye – and would probably command a fee of more than £25m.
