Man United consider move for bitter rivals’ fullback after Shaw injury

Needs must...

Louis van Gaal’s hand has been forced.

Left-back has leapfrogged forward at the top of the Dutchman’s January transfer wishlist as he seeks a replacement for Luke Shaw who broke his leg in two places during Manchester United’s 2-1 away defeat to PSV on Tuesday.

United’s back four looked a hell of a lot less steady when Shaw was stretchered off, with Daley Blind moving to left-back and Marcos Rojo taking his place at centre-back.

The Star report that Leeds United full-back Charlie Taylor could be on his way to Old Trafford sooner than anticipated, as LVG looks to shore up his defence whilst Shaw recovers.

It is understood that United have been scouting the 21-year-old for some time, and were expected to make a move next summer.

But Shaw’s lengthy spell on the sidelines after surgery has forced Van Gaal to bring forward a bid to January, with the fee to be in the region of £4m.
