Man United board call emergency meeting to discuss Solskjaer’s future as manager

Manchester United have called an emergency board meeting to discuss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future as manager following the humiliating 4-1 loss against relegation-threatened Watford, as per The Sunday Times.

The reports states that a virtual meeting has been scheduled for 7pm, where Solskjaer’s compensation terms are planned to be discussed.

United have won just four times in 13 matches, with their recent run of poor results including back-to-back home defeats to rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

It is believed that the Red Devils’ owners – the Glazer family – have told club officials to accelerate their approach for three-times Champions League winner Zinedine Zidane, with United set to increase their financial offer to the Frenchman.

United’s interest in Zidane was reported last week, with the club reportedly keen to use his close relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane to support their negotiations, with United believing that the players ‘can help convince him to join’.

The 49-year-old is thought to be United’s ‘best chance’ to bring silverware back to the club, with officials ‘working to persuade him’ to take the job.

However, it is thought that the former Real Madrid manager is ‘unsure whether the opportunity presented by United is the right one to take at this point’ and would require some persuasion to take the job.

The Times add that Solskjaer being at the helm when two five-goal home losses in the space of 12 months have occurred points towards the Norwegian – and his team of assistant coaches – producing a United team that is “less than sum of its parts”.

The former Molde and Cardiff manager signed a new contract in August, but his deal is understood to include an unchanged single-season compensation payment should he be sacked.

United are currently sat in seventh place, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea after just 12 games.
