The sponsor will feature on the club’s training kit

Manchester United are set to announce a new partnership with New York-based blockchain platform Tezos which is worth £20m per year.

The Athletic has reported that the two parties have agreed a deal which will see them feature on the club’s training kits and have already shot promotional material at their Carrington training centre in preparation for the announcement.

Once a deal is completed, Tezos will replace Aon following the conclusion of their eight-year sponsorship deal – which was worth £120m – ended last season.

Currently United have been wearing training kits without a sponsor after original plans to partner with The Hut Group were abandoned following concerns that fans would boycott United’s commercial partners in response to their protests against the Glazer family.

The new sponsor, Tezos, are a blockchain platform and market themselves as more energy efficient than their competitors in the world of crypto – with United conducting thorough research to ensure they are a credible company.

Tezos are also linked to their own digital token – known as ‘Tez’ – which is bought by crypto traders to sell for profit. The crypto market has made headlines in recent months, but has come under fire for its lack of regulation.

Tezos themselves have experienced the negative aspects of the world of crypto – with the value of their tokens falling heavily since November, 2021.

Many fans might be slightly confused by it all (don’t worry, we are too) but in short, the deal is set to pocket United lots and lots of money in the coming years.

In matters on the pitch, United are in FA Cup action on Friday night when they play Championship side Middlesbrough in the fourth round.
