Luke Shaw replacement admits Manchester United interest

Could this be United's next left-back?

JOE

Luke Shaw’s Manchester United career appears to be as good as over.

The left-back has struggled to hold down a first-team spot since returning from a horrific leg break last season, his efforts hampered by a string of other injuries. Having hardly featured for United during this campaign, the writing appears to be on the wall.

In Shaw’s absence, Jose Mourinho has already experimented by playing several other squad members at left back – including the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and, most recently, Ashley Young. If you believe what you read, Mourinho only sees these players as temporary solutions to his left-back problem, and is looking at bringing in Tottenham’s Danny Rose to make the position his own.

However, fresh reports now suggest that Rose isn’t the only left-back in Mourinho’s sights. Enzo Diaz, a 21-year-old Argentine from Club Agropecuario Argentino, is also said to have been attracting attention from United. Not only this, but it’s now emerged the 21-year-old is keen on a move to Old Trafford after United scouts were impressed by his performances.

Diaz confirmed that United scouts had been present to watch him in the recent game with Aldosivi in Argentina’s second tier.

“I found out about it on Saturday morning, but later I did not talk to anyone other than my agent. My agent told me that they were delighted and they were going to see me a couple more games,” Diaz told Ataque Futbolero.

“It is the dream of any footballer [to play for United]. However, I need to remain focused on what we are doing and enjoying this moment.”
