Manchester United fans who have hoped and prayed for months that Louis van Gaal would leave the club and be replaced by Jose Mourinho now seem strangely gripped with sympathy for the big Dutchman. Reports emerged minutes after United's FA Cup win on Saturday that Jose Mourinho was set to be announced as the new manager of the club in the coming week. And these were not spurious rumours. The likes of the Guardian, Telegraph, Times and even the BBC reported the story with the confidence and unanimity that only results from receiving the tip from an impeccable source. *cough* Jorge Mendes *cough* But now it seems that Louis van Gaal has verified the story himself with the briefest of comments to Sky Sports News. When asked by James Cooper if he had anything to say, the Dutchman simply replied: "No. No, it's over."
