Louis van Gaal: Ryan Giggs will be the next Manchester United manager

Simon Lloyd

With some beginning to question whether Louis van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United, the Dutchman confirmed that when the time does come, Ryan Giggs will be his successor.

The United manager and his assistant were being interviewed in a special ‘Audience With’ event held at the other Old Trafford – Lancashire County Cricket ground.

Discussing the club’s summer moves for Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial, Van Gaal suggested that the new signings should not be expected to make any drastic improvements immediately, but that they would help United’s next manager, Ryan Giggs.

Although many expected Giggs to become the United manager at some point, the news that he will assume the role immediately after Louis van Gaal may be a little surprising.

Interestingly, Van Gaal also added that he didn’t expect United to challenge for the title this season and that a second or third place finish was more realistic. Next season, however, he states that there are ‘no excuses’ for United not winning title number 21.
