Liverpool to make special gesture to Philippe Coutinho if they win the Champions League final

Clear respect remains between the club and the player

Liverpool have announced that Philippe Coutinho will receive a winners medal if the club win the Champions League against Real Madrid on Saturday.

Coutinho departed Anfield for Barcelona in a £142 million move during the transfer window, but maintained a respectful relationship with his former teammates and coaches throughout.

That respect has now been recognised as the club revealed that Coutinho – one of 25 players to play for the club in the Champions League this season – will receive one of the 40 winners medals they may receive.

Coutinho’s participation in the Champions League group stages for Liverpool – which saw him score five goals in five games – prevented him from playing in the competition for his new club.

But if the Reds do overcome Real Madrid on Saturday, Barcelona can be pleased to know at least one of their players will get a medal.
