He’s surely the Best of the Rest

Liverpool are set to join both Manchester clubs in the race to sign Jack Grealish, according to a Mirror exclusive.

Both Man United and Man City are reportedly lining up bids for the Aston Villa captain, while Liverpool are said to be “monitoring” the situation, amid rumours that Mo Salah is unhappy.

Salah has recently been flirting with the idea of a move to one of LaLiga’s big two clubs, saying: “Real Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs. Who knows what might happen in the future.”

While Salah operates from the right and Grealish from the left, Liverpool’s interest in the England international is a clear indication of the club’s awareness that their title winning squad will need refreshing at some point. And they could do a lot worse than Grealish.

In 2020, the Villa captain has cemented his status as the ‘best of the rest’ in the Premier League, with Villa putting an £80m price tag on their most prized asset.

He penned a new deal at Villa Park in September, taking his basic wage up to a reported £130k a week, and has repaid the club with five goals and six assists so far this season.

The Midlands club are unlikely to entertain offers for Grealish this January, with intentions of climbing into the European places, currently sitting ninth in the table.

But the Mirror report that both Manchester clubs will ‘test the waters’ with bids for the playmaker.

Having all but booked his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad this summer, his price will only rise after the tournament. So any interested club will want to wrap up a deal ahead of the Euros.

Whether that is United, City or Liverpool remains to be seen, but what is certain is that all three clubs would benefit from the arrival of such a unique player.
