Liverpool release update on Sadio Mane’s injury

Liverpool supporters will be furiously refreshing their Twitter feeds in the hope that a positive update on Sadio Mane's injury status arrives.

Mane opened the scoring for the Reds in their 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Everton in Saturdays' lunchtime kick-off but he failed to see out the game. The 24-year-old was forced off shortly after half-time after coming off second best in an awkward challenge with Leighton Baines. Mane's left ankle became entangled in Baines' legs and the Senegal international looked in considerable discomfort as he was helped from the Anfield surface. https://twitter.com/SportsJOE_UK/status/848163881096814593 It's still too early to know an awful lot about when Mane will return to action but Liverpool have released an update on the injury via manager Jurgen Klopp. “Today we played a really good game," Klopp said. "Nearly everything was perfect, we win it, the performance was good [but] then we lose Sadio Mane. When I saw him in the dressing room, it didn’t look like he’ll be ready for Wednesday. https://twitter.com/LFC/status/848180552389840898 “We will see, hopefully it’s not that serious, but of course it’s not nothing and that makes our life not easier, I would say.” Supporters fear that Mane, Liverpool's top scorer this season, may have sustained ligament damage due to the sickening way that his ankle contorted under the weight of the Toffees left-back. But Klopp did not offer an official diagnosis as he knew nothing more than that his player looked uncomfortable when he returned to the dressing room. “I don’t know exactly, I don’t want to speculate now," Klopp continued. “Obviously he has pain and it didn’t look like it’s only a knock or a muscle or something, but we have to wait. “When I came in I was looking for him immediately and I saw him on the bed. He’d already had treatment, and it didn’t look like he felt really comfortable.”
