Having equalled the Premier League goals record on Saturday, Mo Salah was crowned PFA Player of the Year on Sunday evening.
The Egyptian has scored 31 league goals since returning to England from AS Roma last summer, matching the existing record that is jointly held by Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez. With three games remaining, it’s difficult to see him not breaking the record before the season ends.
Kevin De Bruyne, who has been a huge influence on Manchester City’s march to Premier League glory, came was runner-up to the award.
Although Liverpool supporters were understandably delighted at Salah picking up the award, they were surprised that he was the only player from Jürgen Klopp’s side to make the PFA Team of the Year.

As many of them made clear on Twitter, they felt two of their players were more than worthy of a spot in the team.
Despite 15 Premier League goals of his own this year, Roberto Firmino – who many Liverpool fans felt warranted a nomination for the main PFA award – was not named in the team.

Along with this omission, others felt Andrew Robertson was also in with a shout of being named as the best left-back in the top flight. Having joined from Hull City last summer, the Scotland international has established himself as Liverpool’s first-choice left-sided full-back and a firm fans’ favourite. His performances, particularly in the second half of the season, have been particularly impressive.
Despite the 24-year-old’s impressive form, Chelsea’ Marcos Alonso was instead named ahead of him.

Firmino and particularly Robertson can feel very hard done by not to be included in that PFA team of the year. Alonso hasn't been bad by any means but Robertson has been outstanding. Think that's one for reputation over performances. Tarkowski very unlucky to miss out too.

Having surrendered a two-goal lead to draw at West Brom on Saturday, Liverpool now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they host AS Roma on Tuesday evening in the first leg of the semi-final. The away leg, which could see Jürgen Klopp’s men clinch a spot in the final in Kiev, takes place next week.
