According to Brazilian radio station Futebol da Gaucha, Liverpool have lodged a £30 million bid for the 23-year-old, who was a part of the Brazil squad that won gold at the Rio games.
With Wednesday's transfer deadline fast approaching, this looks like it could turn into the biggest signing in the dramatic run-up to the closure of the window... if it gets over the line.
Elsewhere, Liverpool have had an offer of £11 million rejected for Borussia Dortmund youngster Christian Pulisic.
According to ESPN FC's sources, the Bundesliga outfit are not willing to part company with their promising 17-year-old winger who has already been capped by the U.S. national team.
With regards to departures, Mamadou Sakho seems to have dug his heels in.
The defender, who was sent home from Liverpool's pre-season training camp, is not thought to be in Jurgen Klopp's plans but has rejected the chance to join Stoke City.
The Mirror report that Mark Hughes approached the Frenchman with the offer of a loan move but that Sakho has turned it down, prompting the Potters to give up on the deal.
One deal that is almost done is the transfer of Luis Alberto to Serie A side Lazio.
After making just 12 appearances for the Reds, Alberto will move to Lazio for an initial fee of £4.3 million, which could rise to £6 million with add-ons.
A 30% sell-on clause has been included in the contract.

Jurgen Klopp wants to trim the fat from his side and that could also see late deals taking Lazar Markovic and Mario Balotelli, who would have to take a significant pay cut, away from Merseyside.
Stay tuned, Liverpool fans. It looks like a hectic one.
