Liverpool have asked about club record move for Monaco star, claims report

Another Monaco player on the move?

Not for the first time in recent weeks, an AS Monaco player is being linked with a move away.

The squad that helped seal a first Ligue 1 title for the club in nearly two decades has already lost Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City and Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea. On top of this, it seems only a matter of time before Paris Saint-Germain agree a deal for Kylian Mbappe.

And that’s not all, either.

Thomas Lemar, a player that’s repeatedly been linked with a move to the Premier League since the end of last season, is now said to be being lined up by Liverpool.

The attacking midfielder looked to be heading to Arsenal at one stage earlier in the summer, although Arsene Wenger confirmed recently that a move for the player was off. Only days ago, Manchester United were also linked with his signature with one report claiming the player would prefer a move to Old Trafford over The Emirates.

Now though, according to the Telegraph (or the Telegraph’s French sources, to be more precise), it’s Liverpool that are thought to be on the cusp of moving for the 21-year-old. It’s said that the Merseyside club have asked about the player’s availability with a view to paying a €60m (£55m) fee.

Despite Liverpool’s willingness to break their own transfer record with a move for the player, it’s unclear if this will be enough to tempt Monaco into selling Lemar. The same report also states that Monaco wish to keep hold of him in the belief that they could sell him for an even greater fee after another year at the club.
