Liverpool fans weren’t surprised to see their former keeper gift Man United a goal

Poor Brad.

Tom Victor

Ask a Liverpool fan about Brad Jones and they’ll instinctively put their head in their hands or start involuntarily screaming. Maybe both at once.

The Australian goalkeeper is probably somewhere between Doni and Adam Bogdan in the ranking of recent Reds goalkeepers, so we don’t doubt a few supporters – upon seeing him take to the field for Feyenoord against Manchester United – were just grateful he no longer plays for their club.

It’s not Jones’ fault that he didn’t impress at Anfield, but it’s fair to say he has always had an error in him. Often more than one error.

True to form, the former Middlesbrough number one (no, really) gifted the opposition a goal, turning a Zlatan Ibrahimovic cross into his own net in the second half.

That put the game out of sight for the home side, after Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata had given United a 2-0 lead.

There was an element of deja vu about the goal, especially for those from the red half of Merseyside.

And it wasn’t just Liverpool supporters who enjoyed the moment.

Of course, the error at Old Trafford shouldn’t take away from the fact that Jones kept a clean sheet in the reverse fixture, though we’re not entirely sure how that one happened.
