A 3-0 league victory over City went some way to avenging their Wembley defeat and was followed by a gutsy 2-1 victory away at Crystal Palace - made all the more impressive by the fact that their two goals were scored after James Milner's sending off.
With two league victories sparking some life into what seemed like an impossible push for a top four finish, a convincing 2-0 Europa League victory over Manchester United put Liverpool on the brink of the competition's last eight.
