These always seem to work…

Liverpool fans attempted to disturb Real Madrid on the eve of their Champions League round of 16 tie by setting fireworks off outside the club’s hotel.

Madrid arrived on Monday night, staying at the Innside Liverpool Hotel, but were woken up in the early hours of the morning.

A video posted to social media shows fireworks going off nearby the hotel. The fireworks appeared to be lit right near the entrance and went on for longer than 30 seconds.

In recent years, fans of many clubs have tried to pull the same trick (and often seen it backfire).

One time it did work for Liverpool fans was their famous Champions League semi final comeback against Barcelona in 2019 as they won the second leg 4-0 at Anfield. Fans set off fireworks outside where the Barça players were staying.

Tuesday’s tie will be a repeat of the 2022 final, which saw the LaLiga side beat Jürgen Klopp’s men 1-0 and the German revealed during his press conference on Monday that he has only just sat down to re-watch it.

“It was proper torture because we played a good game and could have won – and that’s the decisive word because we could but didn’t because they scored and we didn’t. That’s the decisive reason,” he said.

“We saw how experienced Madrid is and how little they are fussed by the fact when the other team has chances.

“They don’t lose confidence in one second, they know ‘our chance will come’ and they defend with legs. That’s what you can learn from them, definitely.

“So somebody told me – and I don’t even know if it was true or not – that Carlo said after the final Liverpool knew exactly what they would face,’ said Klopp. ‘I watched the game back, knowing exactly what we will do and we had to win this game.”
