Liverpool fans elated by transfer window boost after Coutinho sale

"He could dominate our midfield for years."

Some good transfer news after trouncing Man City…

Liverpool proved without a question of a doubt that there’s life after Philippe Coutinho over the weekend. Manchester City were (and still are) vaunted far and wide as potentially the greatest team in Premier League history, but Jurgen Klopp’s men made mincemeat of the Champions elect with their attacking verve and undeniable team spirit.

It was another reminder that this Liverpool side can beat anyone on their day – which of course bodes well for their Champions League campaign. Coutinho is a tremendous player but Liverpool are so much more than that. Klopp has fashioned a side in his own vision, and although there’s plenty of star performers, it’s as much to do with hard work.

He may not be the most fashionable player in the team, but few players can match Emre Can’s combination of power, commitment and sound versatility in the Anfield squad. When he’s in his groove, he shows the potential to turn into one of the best all-round midfielders in the league. But at 24, there was strong speculation that his Liverpool tenure would be cut short.

In fact many thought his rumoured move to Juventus was already a done deal. However, the the Times report that nothing could be further from the truth, and in fact Can is hopeful of staying at the Merseyside club. Readers are told:

‘Emre Can has insisted that he has not signed an agreement to join Juventus in the summer and that he is still talking to Liverpool about extending his stay at the club.

‘Talks reached an impasse months ago because Can wanted a release clause inserted into any extension and, while he said his agent was negotiating with “everyone”, no decision has been taken. “I know you have to ask [about my contract],” Can said.

‘“My agent is looking after everything but I am here until the summer. I haven’t signed anything [with Juventus] or anyone. I am talking with everyone.”’

It’s clear from the response of social media – and replies to Dejan Lovren’s instagram – that Can is much loved by the Liverpool faithful…
