Lionel Messi scores outrageous free-kick to mark his 600th Barcelona goal

Lionel Messi scored yet another stunning free kick to add to the collection to mark his 600th goal for Barcelona tonight against Liverpool

We are not worthy

Do you ever think about how lucky we are to be alive at the same time as Lionel Messi playing at his peak? It’s something we take for granted most of the time, but then the little magician comes out with goals like this. Goals that make you stand up and shout ‘fuck off!’ at your tele. Goals that make you laugh because, how on earth did he score from there? Why would he even attempt to shoot from that far out?

Messi scored twice tonight to all but guarantee Barcelona a place in the Champions League final since 2015. His first was a tap in after some pin-ball in the box but the second… oh boy the second. This was a free-kick from approximately 40 yards out, one that my colleague described as ‘probably too far out for Messi’ moments before he fired it straight into the top bin on Alisson’s side of the goal.

What are you meant to do when your opponent is capable of that? Liverpool will almost certainly not overcome this three goal deficit at Anfield, especially without an away goal, but there is no shame in losing a tie like this.

It’s Messi, for God’s sake.
