Messi clearly wasn’t in the mood

Lionel Messi appeared to break his promise to Jamal Musiala after the Bayern Munich youngster didn’t receive his shirt, despite footage of Messi agreeing to.

Paris Saint-Germain were knocked out at the last 16 stage of the Champions League once again on Wednesday night as they fell to a 2-0 defeat in Germany, losing 3-0 on aggregate.

Musiala was one of the star performers for Julian Nagelsmann’s side and played a pivotal part in the win over the French champions.

Messi meanwhile didn’t have the same impact, with L’Équipe handing out a brutal three out of 10 to the World Cup winner.

Despite his underwhelming display in Bavaria, Messi’s presence is still one that can even make the best players starstruck, including Musiala.

As the full time whistle went, Musiala went over to Messi to ask for his shirt. The 35-year-old gestured to the midfielder to meet him in the tunnel.

Unfortunately for the Germany international there was no shirt to claim as he couldn’t find Messi after the game.

“I didn’t find him,” the 20-year-old told reporters after the game.

Despite being unsuccessful in his hunt for a shirt, Musiala was praised by the pundits on BT Sport, with Rio Ferdinand singing his praises.

“This kid, he has been talked about as one of the best young talents in the world, I think he’s gone beyond that now, I think he’s one of the best,” he said.

“He’s top in terms of goals and assists at Bayern Munich now and they’re looking to sign him to a new contract. This kid is the real deal.

“I would go as far to say I’d back him to be at least top three in the Ballon d’Or at some point in his career, if not – winning it. He’s that good, his balance, his skill.

“I remember Owen Hargreaves said to me ‘Rio, he reminds me of Kaka at his best’ and I laughed at him and said ‘what?’ I hadn’t seen enough of him. But I can see that now.”
