Kyle Walker had the perfect reaction to Leroy Sane’s World Cup omission

It was a reaction shared by many

There was collective shock among both media and football fans today when news emerged that Germany’s World Cup squad was announced. This in itself was not exactly shocking – there is a World Cup on the horizon and it would be odd for them not to announce their squad at least a short while beforehand – but in fact the composition of their squad.

The main point of contention was that Leroy Sane – a man who has been in eye-wateringly good form for Manchester City over the past nine months – was omitted from the squad heading to Russia.

In his place is Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt, a player of the same age (22) who scored one fewer and assisted 12 fewer in the Bundesliga than Sane’s 2017/18 Premier League total of 10 goals and 15 assists.

The response to Sane’s exclusion was one of profound surprise, none more so than from his Manchester City teammate Kyle Walker, who illustrated that surprise with an extremely relatable tweet.

We can very much understand Kyle Walker’s reaction to be fair, his teammate was extraordinarily impressive throughout the season, terrorising defences and laying on goals his team on the regular.

On the plus side for Walker though, Sane’s exclusion means that if England do end up facing Germany, he’ll be spared facing that terror this summer.
