Kevin Prince-Boateng: The journeyman’s journeyman

Kevin Prince-Boateng, the former Spurs and Portsmouth midfielder, has had one of the more interesting career paths in recent memory. And that’s without mentioning his fledgling career as a rap superstar that you may or may not have heard about. If you haven’t, see how long you can watch his debut single, the cunningly entitled ‘King’, before you start choking on your lunchtime pasta bake.

In terms of the football teams Boateng has played for, and the order in which he has played for them, his career makes little sense. Moving from Tottenham to Dortmund on loan, and then going to Portsmouth? Joining Genoa and before even playing a single game moving to AC Milan?? Leaving Milan to join Schalke, before then going back to AC?

And then there’s trying a single season each at Las Palmas, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sassuolo over the last few years like he’s a bored teenager looking for the best four star team to play with on Fifa.

His career trajectory has just gotten even more confusing with the news that Barcelona, yes, that Barcelona, not the rip-off Ecuadorian version, have signed the Ghanian midfielder on loan.

Hey, stranger transfers have happened, and Maxim Choupo-Moting’s move to PSG in the summer shows that their is a place for former Schalke utility players, even at the world’s top clubs.

The agreement includes an €8m purchase option come the end of the season.

It’s about time that strange Paulinho-shaped hope was filled at the Nou Camp. Messi will be delighted.
