Kell Brook’s nickname for Amir Khan isn’t very flattering

"He's a media whore. It's comical"

Kell Brook is currently preparing for his bout against Errol Spence Jr. in Sheffield next Saturday, but he still had time to land a few verbal jabs on Amir Khan.

“He’s a media whore. It’s comical,” Brook said about Khan.

Brook, who will defend his IBF welterweight title against American fighter Spence at Bramall Lane, also referred to his rival by a very unflattering nickname.

“He’s become ‘Amir Kardashian’. He has so much drama around him.

“He’s in the papers for the wrong reasons. I hear he’s a bit skint now, (There have) been some problem with his dad.

“So the way he’s talking I think he wants this big-money fight now. He knows I will beat him up but he may be willing to take his doing for the money.”

A fight between Khan and Brook has long been muted, and would undoubtedly generate a lot of interest among British boxing fans.

However, Khan chose instead to pursue bouts against global boxing stars, such as Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Neither fight materialised, and the Bolton boxer hasn’t been in the ring in over a year, when Mexican middleweight Canelo Alvarez knocked him out in the sixth round of their bout in Las Vegas.

Khan will be ringside for Brook’s fight against Spence, working as a commentator for Sky Sports. But Brook doesn’t seem confident of ever stepping in the ring with his rival, and has his eye on a fight with Keith Thurman after the Spence bout.

‘We’ve heard this stuff from him before so I don’t know if he will do it now,” the Sheffield fighter said.

“But I hope so, I’ve always wanted to fight him.

“After I beat Spence I would also like to go on to fight Keith Thurman for the unified world title.”
