French international Karim Benzema has broken his silence on the sextape blackmail case involving international team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.

Benzema has been charged in relation to the case, and could potentially face jail time for his involvement.

French prime minister Manuel Valls has called for the Real Madrid man to be dropped from the country’s international squad, and now Benzema himself has given his first public statement regarding the matter.

“Hopefully it will end well,” the striker told French TV channel TF1 in excerpts from an exclusive interview.

“We will all return to the France team to win [Euro 2016],” he added.

Valbuena has already opened up on the subject, noting that he has no issue playing in the same team as Benzema.

The Lyon man said he felt like it was a “double sanction” to be dropped from the international squad in addition to everything else.
