Phillips caught his head and needed treatment for a graze

Kalvin Phillips required treatment for a head injury he suffered after a team-bonding session with Leeds United team-mates ahead of the Christmas period of fixtures, as per the Telegraph.

The Leeds players were given a day off by manager Marcelo Bielsa after their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, with the Argentine granting permission for an evening together for those who remained in London following the match.

They were at Cirque Le Soir – a nightclub that is popular with Premier League players – when the Phillips caught his head and needed treatment for a ‘graze that caused a cut’.

Phillips, who was recently named England’s player-of-the-year for 2021, has been passed fit to train as scheduled on Tuesday after an assessment by Leeds’ club doctor. He will also be available for Saturday’s game against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Bielsa is known to give players the Monday off after a Sunday game and he moved training back for players to return from London.

Due to the hectic schedule in December – with most clubs having six or more games – it is difficult for players to enjoy the traditional festive celebrations, with Sunday proving to be Leeds’ only chance for a team-bonding session before the run of fixtures begins.

Phillips has transformed into a vital player for Gareth Southgate and England in the past year or so, featuring in every game on the run to the final of the 2020 European Championships.

For Leeds, he has made over 200 appearances since his debut – including 38 in the Premier League.
