As Lucas, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana saw their spot-kicks saved by Willy Caballero in the League Cup final, one question was on everyone's lips.

Why wasn't Daniel Sturridge taking one of Liverpool's penalties? The England striker might have only scored one penalty in his Reds career - a clincher in the 5-0 Premier League win over Swansea in 2013 - but it was still surprising not to see him step up. But the manager seems satisfied that those best-placed to score from the spot were those who stepped up.
