England's best player has spoken

Jude Bellingham has shared an emotional letter to England fans following the team's World Cup exit, calling for unity and pride after the tournament.

On Wednesday, The Three Lions fell to Argentina after taking the lead through Anthony Gordon, but conceded two late goals from the world champions.

The goals scored by Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez meant that football wasn’t coming home once again, as it ended the hopes for a first World Cup final since 1966.

Bellingham has been one of the stars of the tournament as he scored six goals for The Three Lions, including a double against Norway last weekend in the quarter-finals.

Bellingham's message for England following the defeat

The Real Madrid star spoke publicly in the aftermath of the heartbreaking loss as he was visibly emotional at full time in Atlanta.

And now he has shared on Instagram a touching letter which was personally handwritten by the England team driver, Michael Chandler, in Kansas.

The 23-year-old captioned his photos of the letter with a defiant message to England fans, restating his belief the team “can achieve big things”, before adding: “And we will!”

“[I] was really struggling to find the right words for yesterday and the last few weeks but this pretty much hits the nail on the head from our driver in Kansas”, Bellingham said as he posted on Friday morning,

“Thank you for the unbelievable support from back home and to those who spent their hard earned money to travel to America and get behind us.

“Don’t let the unity and love we’ve seen in our country end with this campaign. When we’re together we can achieve big things… And we will! Love yous!”

The poem featured in Bellingham's letter

The letter features a poem titled “The Lion’s Way”, which talks about England’s World Cup journey.

England fans have serenaded Bellingham with rendition of Beatles anthem “Hey Jude”, as his performances have earned him adulation from people in the stands.

Bellingham said he was “really gutted” about the result, following the semi-final defeat.

He has been one of the players with the most goal contributions at the 2026 World Cup, as he ranks third with 7 goal contributions in 6 matches, and only Kylian Mbappe and Leo Messi have more contributions than him with 11 and 10 goal contributions respectively.
