Jose Mourinho’s list of requirements for his next job doesn’t leave him with many options

Jose Mourinho has been speaking about his future.

The former Chelsea manager has been repeatedly linked with succeeding Louis van Gaal at Manchester United next season, with reports last month claiming his move to Old Trafford is already a done deal.

Mourinho has been speaking about his future, and while he said he expects to be in back in management this summer, he claims he is unsure where his next job will be.

The 53-year-old’s criteria for his next position hints at a return to the Premier League, or possibly La Liga, and may limit his options.

“I can almost guarantee you that I’ll be back working this summer,” Mourinho told Portuguese media outlet O Jogo.

“I’ve good offers on the table. It’s a matter of thinking, to come to a good decision and finalise it. In the summer, at the end of the season, everyone will know what my next club will be.”

Mourinho joked that he won’t be managing in his native Portugal, and that he wants to work in “a hard league”.

“One thing is certain, my future won’t be at Estoril or Paços, because they’re both having great seasons and won’t change manager. I’ll take my ideas to where they wanted. I want to be at a place where I’m truly wanted.

“I want to work at a club with responsibility, in a hard league, where there’re no easy objectives. That doesn’t leave many options.”

In Germany, Bayern Munich will be managed by Carlo Ancelotti next season, and Borussia Dortmund by the impressive Thomas Tuchel. One can’t imagine Mourinho returning to Serie A, while Laurent Blanc looks certain to be Paris Saint-Germain manager next season in France.

That leaves the Premier League, but of the top teams in the division, only Van Gaal’s position seems uncertain.

While, in Spain, Zinedine Zidane could come under pressure should Real Madrid fail to overcome their Champions League quarter-final first-leg defeat to Wolfsburg.
