Set piece threat dealt a blow

Jose Mourinho may have no option but to change his starting XI ahead of the Manchester derby.

Manchester United’s next outing comes against their cross-town arch-rivals and Mourinho could well be without one of his starting midfielders.

The United boss confirmed that Marouane Fellaini picked up a serious injury during Saturday’s late 1-0 victory over Hull.

Fellaini saw out the full 90 minutes but, after the game, Mourinho admitted that the Belgian is to be monitored in order to decipher whether or not he will be fit enough to face City on 10 September.

Towards the end of his post-match press conference, Mourinho announced that the midfielder, who has started every Premier League game this season, will travel with his national team for their friendly against Spain, Belgium’s first fixture under new boss Roberto Martinez, but that he is indeed hurt.

“I am going to lose Fellaini for a while. He has a muscle injury in his back and it is not good,” said Mourinho.

To be fair, Fellaini didn’t look in too bad a way when he kindly offered a helping hand to a lady caught up in the celebratory throng that followed Marcus Rashford’s late winner.
