Jose Mourinho confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager

About bloody time.

Finally, after months and months of speculation,  Jose Mourinho is the new manager of Manchester United. The news has now been confirmed by Manchester United themselves that the former Chelsea boss has now signed his contract to take charge at Old Trafford, following the announcement of Louis van Gaal's departure on Monday. Van Gaal guided United to their first trophy in three years in last Saturday's win over Crystal Palace at Wembley, but is thought to have left the club because of the failure to return them to the Champions League next season. Talks between United and Jorge Mendes - Mourinho's agent - started on Tuesday with personal terms agreed relatively quickly. Although several image rights issues slowed the deal's completion, the contract now appears to be signed. Mourinho has signed a three-year contract with United, that includes an option for an additional year to keep the Portuguese at Old Trafford until 2020. While there has not been an official press conference yet, in a club statement announcing the decision Mourinho said:

"To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game. It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match. "I have always felt an affinity with Old Trafford; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans. I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years."
