Jonny Evans could be the subject of a swap deal as Arsenal and Manchester City chase the defender

Jonny Evans is a man in demand.

The former Manchester United defender is widely expected to leave West Brom before the month is out, with both Manchester City and Arsenal reported to be interested in signing him.

Pep Guardiola was also linked with a move for Evans late in the summer window, only for the transfer to fail to materialise. Despite his history with United, where he spent the entirety of his youth career and made over 100 first team appearances, it has been reported that the 29-year-old would prefer a move to City ahead of a switch to Arsenal.

This said, the BBC’s Simon Stone claims that Arsene Wenger is ‘particularly keen’ to land Evans. While he also suggests Evans would prefer a move to City, he adds that a move to Arsenal can not be fully ruled out.

Stone also says that Wenger would possibly be willing to offer as much as £25m for the defender, with Mathieu Debuchy also moving in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

Wherever he ends up, Evans’ departure from West Brom appears imminent. His manager recently admitted that he was open to selling him in order to free up some funds to spend on some attacking reinforcements for his squad.
