John Obi Mikel has completed a short-term loan move to Middlesbrough, it has been announced.
The midfielder spent 11 years as a Chelsea player before eventually left two years ago to join Tianjin Teda in China. Now 31, the Nigerian international has returned to England, joining Boro until the end of the season after completing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
Mikel was said to be keen to return to the UK, where his wife and children remained while he played in China. He is also thought to have attracted interest from Roma, Wolfsburg and Crystal Palace before eventually completing a move to the Championship side.
