Manchester United and Manchester City fans react to Joe Hart reports

We thought this was a joke

Patrick McCarry

Initial reports linking Joe Hart to Manchester United first emerged a fortnight ago but they were readily dismissed. There’s no way that would ever come close to happening, most of us thought.

Well, the stories are not going away and it seems like one party in particular is keen on the move.

With Marca reporting that Real Madrid will return with a fresh David De Gea bid this summer, United could finally loosen their grip. De Gea has been at United six seasons and currently has more individual accolades than trophies since joining.

Having come perilously close to joining Real in 2015, the long spoken of move could finally go ahead in the coming months.

That would leave United on the look-out for a new No.1 but it does not explain the Hart links, until you read the latest reports from England.

Both The Star and The Independent have it from a reliable source [possibly based in the Turin region of Italy] that Hart ‘would relish the opportunity’ of a switch to United.

The 30-year-old England international is on loan with Serie A side Torino this season and faring well without winning rave reviews. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola appeared to make his mind up about Hart 0.6 seconds after he stepped foot into the club’s Etihad Campus training base.

Sources close to Hart let it be known, before the summer transfer window closed, that he was keen to play Champions League football but was also open to a move to Everton. In the end, he packed his bags and picked up an Italian phrase-book at Manchester Airport.

Hart, and his people, may be dead into a cross-city move to Old Trafford but it remains to be seen whether José Mourinho or any leading figure at United feels likewise.

As for supporters on both sides…
