It’s hard to argue with Jamie Carragher’s assessment of Everton

He has identified Marco Silva's problem position

Everton fans might want to go ahead and turn back now.

It’s something of a bleak time to be a Toffees supporter and while little stock is given to preseason fixtures, the fact that Everton have lost four on the bounce will not fill fans with confidence ahead of the upcoming season.

New manager Marco Silva has only managed one win from six friendlies so far this summer and boyhood Everton fan Jamie Carragher has sounded an ominous warning with just over a week until the close of the transfer window.

Carragher has piled the pressure on Silva by reminding him of the fact that the club has massively underperformed in recent years.

“It’s a little bit worrying for Everton now,” Carragher told talkSPORT.

“A big problem for them is that there have been so many managers.

“There’s a lot of people who are not good enough that are playing for Everton. They are one of the top clubs in the country, they should always be challenging for European places and they look miles away at the moment.

“It’s worrying, really worrying.”

Carragher, who made 737 appearances for Everton’s arch-rivals Liverpool, has also identified the position which Silva must strengthen before his debut season on Merseyside gets underway.

While the Toffees have spent big on Brazilian youngster Richarlison, Carragher reckons Silva needs to prioritise shoring up his defence.

“We were talking about Liverpool maybe needing a centre-back, I think Everton need two,” the legendary Liverpool defender added.

“It’s not easy going out there and getting centre-backs at the moment. I look at the centre-backs and I really worry.

“Yes you’ve got Jordan Pickford, but he’s going to Chelsea for £70 million!

“The only positive thing for an Evertonian would be that the results have been so poor, it will force the club into doing a lot of business in the next ten days.”
