Salford City have sacked manager Richie Wellens after less than five months in charge with the club ninth in League Two, having not won in their last four matches.
Gary Neville, as co-owner of the club, oversaw the decision to give let go of Wellens, who only took over from Gary Alexander in November.
Clearly there, is a rush to get promoted again among the corridors of power at Salford, which would contradict some past tweets from Neville himself, as his Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher was so pleased to point out.
Following the news of Wellens’ sacking, Carragher posted a screenshot of a tweet that Neville posted in 2018, complaining that not enough clubs give managers time to implement their visions.
“How can you build a football team without getting 2-3 years. A rule change is required to moderate sackings of managers mid season in their first year at a club?” the tweet read.
Carragher wasn’t going to waste this opportunity to goad his former foe, current colleague, and eternal rival by digging up that golden nugget.

Neville is yet to respond, but rest assured the former Manchester United man will be working his way through Carragher’s old tweets, looking for gold, keeping it in his back pocket, so when the time comes, he can strike with a vengeance. Or he just won’t care, I don’t know.
