Maddison is set to make the move to north London imminently

James Maddison has had a social media cleanse and deleted a number of tweets in which he criticised Tottenham ahead of his prospective move.

Spurs have reportedly agreed a £40m deal plus add-ons for the England international, who has also been linked with Newcastle United, in what is considered to be a major coup.

Maddison was destined to leave Leicester City following their relegation to the Championship and has returned early from a holiday in Ibiza to undergo a medical before the move is made official.

But before even putting on a Spurs shirt, the 26-year-old was caught out on social media after users found a number of tweets in which he appeared to criticise the north London side and in particular their former player, Gareth Bale.

In his first tweet, back in 2012, Maddison claimed that Jack Wilshere was far better than Bale, saying: I hate Gareth Bale with a passion, calm down you monkey, [Jack] Wilshere is 10x better than you chimpanzee.”

The second, from March 2013, said: “Hope Luis Suarez destroys Tottenham today, don’t like Spurs! Especially that monkey everyone’s on about.”

Last season, the midfielder made 19 goal contributions in 32 appearances for the Foxes.
