James DeGale dismisses Chris Eubank Jr with one cutting line

DeGale has options, but he doesn't seem too concerned about Eubank

James DeGale has options, but he doesn’t seem too concerned about Chris Eubank Jr.

DeGale has said he wants to return to the UK for his next fight, but the Eubanks probably shouldn’t get too excited about a potential bout, judging by DeGale’s latest comments.

The IBF super-middleweight champion’s last bout was a draw against Badou Jack in January, and he has said he wants to return to the London for his next fight.

The 31-year-old last fought on British soil back in 2014, against Marco Antonio Periban in Liverpool.

DeGale says he has options for his homecoming bout, including a rematch with George Groves, the only fighter to beat him at professional level, or against Callum Smith.

“Groves and Smith, go up weight, down weight, there are so many options out there for me,” DeGale told The Daily Mail.

When the 2008 Olympic gold medallist was asked about Eubank Jr, he replied:

“He’s on the radar. It’s a massive fight but he’s boxed nobody and brings nothing to the table other than a name.”

The Eubanks are evidently open to a fight against DeGale, as Chris Eubank Sr said last month:

“We have chosen DeGale, and we are coming for him.”

It’s not clear who London boxer will fight next, but it seems certain he’ll remain with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom promotion, despite the attempts of Floyd Mayweather to sign him.

DeGale says the retired boxer continues to text him, and he finds the situation a bit bizarre given Mayweather’s stature in the sport.

“I didn’t know if he’s all talk, all chat. It’s the weirdest thing though — Floyd Mayweather texting you. How do you reply to that? He’s mad though, just does one word answers and stuff.”
