Jake Paul looks to face experienced boxer as next opponent

It would be quite the step up for Paul

Jake Paul has reportedly sounded out Julio Cesar Chavez Jr as his next potential opponent, according to reports at the Mirror.

The former YouTuber-turned boxer took his unbeaten professional record to 5-0 recently after he knocked out Tyron Woodley in Tampa Bay, Florida last weekend.

Woodley filled in at late notice after Paul’s original opponent, Tommy Fury, was forced to pull out with just two weeks’ notice after he suffered an injury in the build-up to the fight.

Despite his impressive winning start to life in the ring, there are still question marks surrounding Paul’s resumé – with the American yet to face a fully-fledged boxer.

But according to his management team BAVAFA Sports, Paul has now called for his next opponent to be Chavez Jr, who has fought 60 times in his professional career.

Previously Paul has been known for calling out the big names in the sport, with Canelo Alvarez a name as well as targeting high-profile UFC fighters such as Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz in recent times.

However a fight with Chavez Jr would present the Cleveland-born Paul with his biggest test yet given the Mexican’s experiences at the top level of boxing, but at 35, is coming to the end of his career.

The Mexican is the son of legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez who was a multiple world champion over three different weight categories, with many considering him as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of the 90’s.

It seems as if the fight could be a genuine possibility though, with BAVAFA Sports recently posting a comparison of Paul’s and Chavez Jr’s records with hints that discussions could well take place.

They said: “It shows you how impressive Jake is that people think this should be his next opponent.

“Even more impressive that Jake messaged @nakisabidarian and set let’s get this one next.”

Nakisa Bidarian, the founder of BAVAFA Sports and the former finance manager of the UFC, is Paul’s current manager and is targeted with finding the 24-year-old his next opponent, with other names such as MMA fighter Anderson Silva – who Chavez Jr recently lost to, one of those being linked.
