It's only been a few hours but there's been so many names in the hat to face Conor McGregor at UFC 196 than there is in the General Election on Friday.
But it seems that all is (presumably) calm in the epicentre of UFC HQ and we may actually be getting closer to finding out who McGregor will fight in the MGM Grand on March 5th.
Nate Diaz has featured prominently in any lists speculating who could fill the void left by Rafael dos Anjos' withdrawal and it seems he is up for the fight... on one condition.

We don't want to put words in his mouth but we're pretty sure McGregor isn't going to do that.
Despite this stipulation we may well be getting close to a match-up, with MMA writer Jeremy Botter tweeting that we're close to a deal. .

Diaz was previously beaten by Dos Anjos in a catchweight fight in December 2014.
Dana White earlier confirmed that McGregor will still be the co-main event at UFC 196 and will still fight at 155lb.
It's beginning to look like Nate Diaz may the man to step into the Octagon against McGregor and it's a fight that has UFC fans very excited.
