Indonesian goalkeeper Choirul Huda has passed away after a collision with a teammate on Sunday.

The Persela FC goalkeeper was rushing out to claim a ball just before half-time of the Liga 1 tie with Semen Padang when he clashed with a teammate and suffered fatal injuries.

Huda, 38, was immediately taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving after he failed to respond to attempts to revive him.

In a statement released on club’s official website, Dr Yudistiro Andri Nugroho said Huda suffered “impacts on the chest and lower jaws”.

“Initial analysis” also suggested a “possibility of head trauma and neck trauma”.

After struggling to breathe, it’s said that the player suffered cardiac arrest and passed away.

“Thank you for your constant dedication,” a post on the club’s Instagram account reads.

“Thank you for the inspiration you gave to Persela, Lamongan and Indonesian football.”

A video of the collision has been doing the rounds on social media but we will not be sharing it.

Rest in peace, Choirul Huda.
