Incredible stat shows Real Madrid’s ridiculous European dominace

Kevin Beirne

We knew Real Madrid were good, but not this good.

The official Twitter account of the Champions League shared some interesting statistics with their followers ahead of the penultimate group stage games on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Having trawled through all the results throughout the history of the European Cup (and not just the Champions League), they devised an all-time top ten table by awarding three points to a team for every group stage and knock-out win they have ever recorded in Europe’s top contest.

It’s no surprise that Real Madrid, with their ten European titles, come out on top – but it is shocking how far in front they are. Los Blancos are almost 200 points ahead of Bayern Munich in second, and nearly 300 points ahead of the top English team Manchester United.

Despite their five titles, Liverpool have to settle for a place behind Portuguese clubs Porto and Benfica, while Arsenal sneak into the top ten as the only team without a European Cup to their name.
