Martin from Wakefield cameos in Huddersfield announcement of actual new boss Jan Siewert

An announcement video for the ages

The art of the social media announcement video has seen football indulge in a number of innovative, cringeworthy, and downright weird creations but Huddersfield Town have pulled off a top-class confirmation of their new manager, Jan Siewert.

Once David Wagner left the Premier League’s bottom club by mutual consent, it was widely expected that the Terriers would make an appointment after their weekend game with Manchester City.

Naturally, that led to a huge amount of speculation as to whether their new boss might be in the stands and Sky Sports picked out a well-dressed man with a beard, believing him to be Borussia Dortmund II coach Siewert.

It turned out to be a man named Martin, a charity director from Wakefield.

If you thought you had seen the last of Martin, however, you were wrong as Huddersfield drafted him into their announcement video for Siewert by placing him in the manager’s office, dressed in full training kit.

Martin even has a framed photograph of the moment a Sky reporter attempted to interview him in the John Smith’s Stadium stands, which he fondly looks over as he confirms that he’s taken over from David Wagner.

And yet, poor Martin’s dream is shattered as soon Siewert is confirmed as the true heir to the Huddersfield hotseat, and the German calmly bins the photograph of his phantom predecessor to draw to an end the Premier League’s shortest-ever managerial stint.
