“Some idiots didn’t paint Huddersfield as a good club…”
Nathan Jones has criticised Huddersfield Town supporters for taunting his Luton players during the pitch invasion which followed Monday night’s play-off semi-final at The John Smith’s Stadium.
Huddersfield beat Luton 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Jordan Rhodes, helping them clinch a 2-1 aggregate win over Jones’ side to reach Wembley later this month. They will face either Nottingham Forest or Sheffield United there for a place in the Premier League.
Thousands of supporters spilled onto the pitch within seconds of full-time, with some targeting Luton’s dejected players.

Jones on Huddersfield fans’ pitch invasion
“Their fans were an absolute disgrace,” Jones said after the game. “I don’t know why the stewards turned up.
“Some idiots didn’t paint Huddersfield as a good club. You’ve won, go and celebrate with your players. Instead, they were more concerned with making obscene gestures at us.
“They abused me. Some were okay and congratulated us, but some have not painted Huddersfield Town in a good light after that.
“To be fair, a lot of them might not be true Huddersfield fans, as they were more concerned with taunting and abusing our fans.”
Snodgrass amongst Luton players targeted
Robert Snodgrass, who spent four years with Huddersfield’s local rivals Leeds United, was one of the Luton players targeted by supporters.
The Championship final takes place at Wembley on Sunday 29 May. Forest are favourites to face Huddersfield, having beaten Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane in the first leg of their play-off semi-final.
The second leg will be played at the City Ground on Tuesday night.
