How the hell was this furious fan allowed to stay on the pitch for so long?

The supporter took to the pitch to confront Coventry players

The Ricoh Arena stewards didn’t cover themselves in glory on Tuesday night.

Towards the end of Coventry City’s frustrating defeat to Forest Green Rovers, one fuming fan let his emotion get the better of him and made his way on to the pitch to confront the players who, in his eyes, were not pulling their weight.

Forest Green’s Christian Doidge was almost tackled by the pitch invader before the supporter then turned his attention to Jack Grimmer and Marc McNulty.

The strangest thing about the whole exchange is the fact that, unlike most pitch invasions, no stewards or security chased the unwelcome interruption off the pitch.

There wasn’t a high vis vest or jacket to be seen as it was left to Coventry midfielder Michael Doyle to deal with the disturbance as he took matters into his own hands and escorted the fan off the playing surface so the remainder of injury time could be played out.

The defeat was Coventry’s second at home this season and most fans voiced their frustration by booing when the final whistle was blown by referee Simon Hooper but, fortunately, all but one managed to remain in their seats.
